How to use the Etsy fee calculator

  1. Pick where your bank account is. Etsy charges different payment processing rates depending on where your payout bank account is, not where you live or where the buyer is. Australia, Canada and New Zealand have separate domestic and international rates.
  2. Enter the item price and quantity. Use the price the buyer sees before any sale. If you are running a sale, enter the percentage in the discount box. Etsy calculates its fees on what the buyer actually pays, so the discount lowers your fees as well as your income.
  3. Add the shipping you charge and the postage you pay. Etsy charges its transaction and processing fees on the shipping amount too. Free-shipping sellers should enter 0 for shipping charged and their real label cost for postage.
  4. Enter your cost of goods. Include materials, packaging and, ideally, your own time. If you leave labor out, the "profit" figure is really what you earn for your time.
  5. Choose Offsite Ads if the sale came from one. You only pay this fee when Etsy tells you an order was attributed to its offsite advertising.

What fees does Etsy charge?

A normal Etsy sale carries three main fees. The listing fee is USD 0.20 each time a listing is published or renewed, and each extra unit you sell in a multi-quantity listing costs another 0.20. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping and gift-wrap charges you set. The payment processing fee applies to orders paid through Etsy Payments. It is a percentage plus a small fixed amount, and it is charged on the order total including any sales tax. In the United States that is 3% + USD 0.25, in the United Kingdom 4% + GBP 0.20, and in most euro countries 4% + EUR 0.30. Some countries, including Pakistan, Brazil and the UAE, pay 6.5% + USD 0.30.

Depending on your situation, there are also extra fees. Offsite Ads cost 15% of an attributed order, or 12% once your shop has made USD 10,000 or more in sales over 365 days, and the fee is capped at USD 100 per order. A Regulatory Operating fee of between 0.05% and 1.97% applies to sellers in a handful of countries, such as the UK (0.48%), France (1.14%) and Canada (0.50%). A 2.5% currency conversion fee applies when your listing currency differs from your payment account currency.

Worked example

Suppose a US seller sells a USD 50 item and charges USD 10 shipping. The order total is USD 60. The fees are a USD 0.20 listing fee, a USD 3.90 transaction fee (6.5% of 60) and a USD 2.05 processing fee (3% of 60 plus 0.25), so total Etsy fees are USD 6.15. If the item cost USD 15 to make and postage cost USD 8, the profit is USD 30.85. If the same order came through Offsite Ads at 15%, an extra USD 9.00 would come off, leaving USD 21.85. That is why it is worth building the possibility of ad fees into your prices.

Tips for keeping more of every sale

  • Price for the worst case. If your margin only works when there are no Offsite Ads fees, an ad-driven sale will feel like a loss. Use the break-even figure as your absolute floor, not your target.
  • Look at the fixed fees on low-priced items. On a USD 5 sticker, the 0.20 listing fee and the 0.25 processing fee together are 9% of the price before any percentage fees. Bundles or multi-packs often make more sense.
  • Remember that fees follow the money. Raising shipping instead of the item price does not avoid the 6.5% transaction fee, because it applies to shipping too.
  • Check your payment account monthly. Your real fee history is the final word, and the calculator is only an estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take from a sale?

For a typical US seller, Etsy's fees are a USD 0.20 listing fee, 6.5% of the item price plus shipping, and 3% + USD 0.25 for payment processing. That usually adds up to roughly 10–11% of the order total. Offsite Ads, where they apply, add 12–15% more.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping price you charge, and the payment processing fee applies to the full order total, including shipping and tax.

Is the Etsy processing fee the same in every country?

No. It depends on where your bank account is. For example, it is 3% + USD 0.25 in the US, 4% + GBP 0.20 in the UK, 4% + EUR 0.30 in most euro countries, and 6.5% + USD 0.30 in countries such as Pakistan and Brazil.

Can I avoid Offsite Ads fees?

Shops with under USD 10,000 in sales over the previous 365 days can opt out in their Etsy settings. Once a shop passes that level, taking part becomes mandatory, but the rate drops to 12%.

Does this calculator include VAT on Etsy fees?

No. In some countries Etsy adds VAT to its seller fees. If that applies to you and you cannot reclaim it, add your VAT rate on top of the fee total.
